Process Engineer (Service & Prototype Assembly)

About the Role

  • Core Focus: Developing, implementing, and refining mechanical assembly processes and documentation for prototype UAV systems.
  • Key Scope: Cross-functional collaboration with design engineers, production technicians, and R&D teams to optimize product manufacturability and assembly workflows.

SPE “Athlon Avia”, a full-cycle Ukrainian research and production enterprise developing advanced UAV technologies, is seeking a skilled Process Engineer (Mechanical / Prototype Assembly) to oversee process planning, assembly routing, and manufacturing documentation for experimental prototypes as our enterprise grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Planning & Implementation: Develop and deploy manufacturing and assembly workflows for new experimental units and UAV platforms.
  • CAD & DFM Analysis: Analyze 3D CAD models and formulate engineering proposals and reports for the design department to improve manufacturability.
  • Assembly Sequence Optimization: Plan assembly sequences, sub-assembly structures, and select optimal mechanical joining and fastening techniques.
  • Quality Assurance: Supervise inline assembly operations to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, tolerances, and quality standards.
  • Tooling & Equipment Selection: Identify and specify assembly equipment, power tools, torque-controlled drivers, and customized assembly workstations.
  • Jigs & Fixture Design: Plan requirements for custom jigs, assembly fixtures, and holding devices.
  • Technological Documentation: Draft assembly routing sheets, standard operating procedures (SOPs), fastening sequence diagrams, and torque specifications.
  • Time Study & Labor Norming: Perform initial time studies and establish labor norms for assembly operations during early-stage prototype builds.
  • Document Management & ECN Updates: Audit, verify, and update technological documentation following Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).
  • Cross-Functional Feedback Loop: Provide direct feedback to design and process engineers regarding assembly challenges, recommending structural improvements for better ergonomics and ease of assembly.

Candidate Qualifications & Required Experience

Candidate Profile:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Multidisciplinary Knowledge: Solid understanding of manufacturing, mechanical assembly, structural composites, and electronics integration.
  • Process Documentation: Hands-on experience drafting process routes, work instructions, and assembly documentation.
  • Technical Standards: Good knowledge of engineering drawing standards, tolerances, fits, and hardware specifications.
  • Software Proficiency: Practical experience with SolidWorksMS Excel, and Google Docs.
  • Key Traits: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, structured mindset, and an ability to collaborate seamlessly with production floor teams and R&D engineers.

Required Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience as a Process Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, or Mechanical Engineer.
  • Direct experience with manufacturing processes or mechanical assembly of complex technical hardware.
  • Nice to Have: Prior experience in MilTech, Aerospace, Aviation, Robotics, or Advanced Hardware Manufacturing industries.
