Process Engineer (CNC Laser / Machining)

About the Role

• Core Focus: Development and optimization of CNC processing workflows and CAM programming for structural components.
• Key Scope: Toolpath generation, cutting parameter optimization, first-article test runs, and technological documentation.

SPE “Athlon Avia”, a full-cycle Ukrainian research and production enterprise and an industry leader in unmanned aerial systems (UAS), is seeking a skilled Process Engineer (CNC Laser / Machining) to join our manufacturing team as we scale production capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• 3D CAD Model Preparation: Prepare 3D models and geometry for downstream CNC machining and cutting operations.
• CAM Programming: Generate control programs (G-code) using Autodesk PowerMill for CAM programming and NCStudio for machine control.
• Datum & Workholding Setup: Select optimal workpiece datums, clamping methods, and workholding configurations.
• Tooling & Parameter Selection: Select appropriate tooling, cutting gas/laser modes, and calculate optimal feeds and speeds.
• First-Article Inspection & Testing: Perform test runs, setup verifications, and first-piece machining/cutting.
• Cycle Time Optimization: Refine toolpaths and operating cycles to maximize throughput and efficiency.
• Quality & Tolerance Control: Monitor dimensional accuracy, geometric tolerances, and edge quality.
• Process Documentation: Draft routing sheets, standard operating procedures, and record technical process revisions.

Candidate Qualifications & Required Experience

• CNC & CAM Expertise: Strong background in CNC programming, CAM software operation, and machining cycle optimization.
• Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Ability to evaluate component designs for manufacturing suitability, dimensional tolerances, and material behavior.
• Shop Floor Integration: Hands-on experience with workpiece setup, tool selection, precision fitting, and basic machine maintenance (including manual lathe ops).
• Quality & Process Optimization: Proven track record in reducing cycle times, minimizing scrap rates, and documenting process adjustments.
• Software Proficiency: Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.
