The A1-SM “Furia” Unmanned Aerial System, developed by Athlon Avia, had already been supplied to the Ukrainian military for six years and had been in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine for one year. It was the only unmanned aerial system in Ukraine for reconnaissance and artillery fire adjustment to successfully complete state trials and be officially adopted into service.
Over six years of operation, hundreds of “Furia” systems had accumulated tens of thousands of flight hours over enemy positions, demonstrating a high level of resilience against Russian electronic warfare systems. This operational experience extended beyond missions in the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) area. In 2021, Defense Express published footage provided by Athlon Avia, recorded by an A1-SM “Furia” UAS over the positions of Russian forces in temporarily occupied Crimea.
In an exclusive comment to Defense Express, Athlon Avia Director Artem V’yunnyk spoke about the system’s development, modernization, and plans for deliveries in 2021. According to him, despite the system’s official adoption into service in April 2020, work on improving the “Furia” had continued without interruption.
