Choosing your dream job, an exhibition of miltech innovations, a prize giveaway, and even a motivational boost from the comedians “Lions in a Jeep”—Career Day took place on April 25 at the National University “Kyiv Aviation Institute.”
The hangar of one of the KAI buildings brought together hundreds of students and anyone interested in career opportunities in the defense sector. At its booth, NVP Athlon Avia presented the A1-CM “Furia” unmanned aerial system—one of Ukraine’s first reconnaissance drones. The booth featured the complete UAV system used for combat missions: the UAV itself, the ground control station, and the antenna.
Students showed keen interest in the “Furia’s” technical specifications as well as employment opportunities. A variety of questions were asked—including some that weren’t immediately obvious:
“I’m a humanities major. Can I find a job at a defense company?”
The answer is yes. The defense industry needs more than just engineers. For companies to operate smoothly, they need managers, product and project managers, lawyers, HR specialists, accountants, and communications professionals.
On a separate stage at the event, students presented their pitches to representatives from defense companies. Yana Khnykina, HR Director at Athlon Avia, emphasized the importance of soft skills—responsibility, communication, teamwork, and adaptability. It is precisely these skills that help achieve results in the rapidly evolving defense sector today.
notes Yana Khnykina.“Athlon Avia has a long-term development plan. That’s why we’re ready to bring students on board today. It’s important to us to know who we’ll be building Ukraine’s future with in 3–5 years. We’re open to young professionals in the fields of electronics, development, testing, and training,”
Career Day at KAI is also an opportunity to highlight engineering as a truly exciting field for professional fulfillment in Ukraine. At Athlon Avia, students can gain hands-on experience in this field by participating in internship programs, practical training, or studies in relevant student laboratories.
