Process Engineer (CNC Milling)

About the Role

  • Core Focus: Development and implementation of machining processes for mechanical components.
  • Key Scope: CAM programming, tooling selection, cutting parameter optimization, and manufacturing process documentation.

SPE “Athlon Avia”, a full-cycle Ukrainian research and production enterprise developing advanced UAV technologies, is seeking a skilled Process Engineer (CNC Milling) to oversee the development, implementation, and optimization of CNC machining processes in compliance with technical specifications and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • 3D Model Preparation: Prepare 3D models for downstream CNC milling operations.
  • CAM Programming: Generate control programs (G-code) using Autodesk PowerMill for CAM programming and NCStudio for machine control.
  • Workholding & Datum Setup: Determine optimal workpiece datum, clamping methods, and workholding fixtures.
  • Tooling & Speed/Feed Selection: Select appropriate cutting tools and calculate optimal speeds, feeds, and depth of cut.
  • First-Article Machining: Perform dry runs, setup verification, and first-article test machining.
  • Cycle Time Optimization: Refine toolpaths and machining strategies to optimize cycle times.
  • Quality & Tolerance Inspection: Monitor dimensional accuracy, surface finishes, and GD&T compliance.
  • Process Documentation: Draft routing sheets, process instructions, and revise technical documentation as required.

Candidate Qualifications & Required Experience

  • CNC & CAM Expertise: Advanced understanding of CNC machining principles; strong skills in programming milling machines and optimizing machining cycles.
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM): Ability to analyze component designs for manufacturing feasibility, tolerances, and processing requirements.
  • Setup & Shop Floor Skills: Experience with precision workpiece setup, tool management, and basic manual lathe maintenance/operations.
  • Quality & Process Control: Proven record in reducing cycle times, minimizing scrap rates, and documenting process engineering changes.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong knowledge of SolidWorks.
